Canada’s Erik Sabrowski has acquired a name to The Present.
The Cleveland Guardians chosen the contract of the Edmonton-born, left-handed reliever Wednesday after former Toronto Blue Jays reliever Anthony Gose was designated for task.
Sabrowski, 26, is 8-3 with a 3.51 ERA in 36 appearances in double-A Akron and triple-A Columbus this season.
A 14th-round choose of the San Diego Padres in 2018, Sabrowski was claimed off waivers by the Cleveland group in 2021.
Sabrowski missed the whole 2019 season after Tommy John surgical procedure, per the St. Albert Gazette, after which had no place to play in 2020 due to COVID-19. He had a second Tommy John surgical procedure in 2021 and didn’t make his organizational debut with Cleveland till June 2023.
Sabrowski is the fourth Canadian on the Guardians’ lively roster, becoming a member of brothers Josh and Bo Naylor of Mississauga, Ont. and reliever Cade Smith of Abbotsford, B.C.
The Guardians enter play Thursday tied for first within the AL Central with the Kansas Metropolis Royals.
